The Nathan Harrison Historical Archaeology Project, a twenty-year endeavor that has uncovered nearly 60,000 artifacts, more than 30 photographs, and over 130 historical documents, reveals the life of Nathan Harrison, the first African American Homesteader in San Diego County. Harrison, a formerly enslaved man from Kentucky, was moved to California in the mid-1800s through forced migration.
