Bum the Dog Walk and Hospitali-Tea

Come and join the friendly folks from the San Diego-Edinburgh (Scotland) Sister City Society and Gaslamp Quarter Historical Foundation for an afternoon of elbow grease and Scottish hospitality, as we clean the bronze sculptures of Greyfriars Bobby and Bum-the-Dog on Sunday, March 19th. Enjoy traditional Scottish refreshments and take a walking tour of Bum’s favorite haunts from nearly one and a quarter centuries ago!

Our afternoon will begin at 2:00 PM. at Fourth and Island in the Gaslamp (The Gaslamp Museum at the Davis-Horton House, 410 Island Avenue) where we will meet-and-greet one another and have a few moments to shop the GQHF’s gift shop for doggie items, then regroup in the pocket park for a session to spring clean the dog sculptures and reminisce about the dogs’ lives. We’ll update you on the plans to re-locate the statue of Bum in Edinburgh and the opportunity for a special tour from San Diego to join the festivities there. We’ll also hear about plans for the Highland Games and other activities. After the cleaning is done, we’ll enjoy traditional Scottish refreshments and tea (hot or cold, depending on the weather). Then we’re off to pound the pavements with stories about Bum’s life in San Diego and where his paws have trodden. Join tour guide, Dan Haslam, as he tells tall “tails” about San Diego’s one-and-only town pooch!

Donations to the GQHF will be cheerfully accepted, although there’s no charge for the afternoon’s festivities or tour. Parking is on street (free at meters on Sunday), or in parking garages (paid parking) at 6th and K or 6th and Market Streets. Rain will not cancel.
